Kentucky High School Student Fights for Life After Auto Accident

A 16-year-old student from Mayfield High School was critically injured in a fatal car accident that occurred on Dec. 25, 2016. According to the family, the teen is recovering from a spinal injury. The victim was a passenger in a 2011 Nissan Maxima that veered off Kentucky 131 in Symsonia. After hitting a tree, the driver died. Upon arriving at the scene, a Smyrna Fire Department first responder described the scene as challenging due to the severity of the damage.

Authorities say that no autopsy will be performed on the driver. However, a toxicology test was conducted to find out if any drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The results from the test were expected to be available within 30 days.

Vehicle accidents happen when drivers become distracted for various reasons. Some factors may include intoxication, illness, or other external causes that reduce vehicle control. Whatever the underlying factors that may be involved, innocent victims can experience a lifetime of pain and suffering if they survive.

When individuals have been injured in a vehicle accident, a lawyer can help examine traffic reports to find out who caused the accident and why. The attorney may then help the victim file a personal injury lawsuit. Depending on the extent of injuries, a victim may be able to obtain compensation for lost wages, attendant care, physical therapy, and doctor visits. These benefits help alleviate the stress associated with losing employment or a loved one who was the sole financial supporter of a family.
